Understanding Dental Insurance

If you have dental insurance, we will make every effort to obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information on your coverage, however we highly recommend that you become familiar with your dental benefit plan as well. Our primary goal is to help you maintain good dental health, so we do not recommend treatment based on insurance coverage.

Do you accept my insurance?

To allow us to provide the highest quality of care, we are out-of-network for all insurance companies which means our treatment recommendations and fees are not determined by your insurance carrier. As a courtesy, we will submit claims to your insurance provider, and for most plans, we will have them send us their payment. However, you are responsible for any portion of our full normal fees that is not covered by your insurance, so please be prepared to pay estimated co-payments at the time of service. Due to the nature of insurance contracts, we may not know what your exact final costs will be until we receive actual payment from your insurance company. If your insurance pays less than expected, we will bill you for the difference. If your insurance pays more than expected, we will refund you any over-payment.

Will my insurance cover this?

Most dental insurance policies include limitations on certain procedures. These limitations are based solely on the financial aspect of your policy and should not be used to determine the care you choose to receive.  If you would like to know exactly what your costs will be before proceeding with your dental care, we will be happy to submit a pre-treatment estimate to your insurance carrier for any treatment recommended.

While it can be frustrating if you expect insurance to cover the whole bill, the costs of dental care can be managed. Become familiar with your dental coverage, do some advance planning, and remember that your health is the most important thing. We are here to answer any questions you may have, and we have many years of experience dealing with dental insurance. Since we are not a party to your dental contract, we do not have all the answers – but we will do our very best to help you get the most from your plan.
