I think the most rewarding part of being a dentist is making a difference in someone’s life. When we get to see someone who is fearful, and apprehensive, and just afraid of the dentist office, and we get to know them, and get to understand what they want from us, and then we seem them kind of relax. You know? Then we see them, each time they come in again and again, we see them relax a little bit more to the point where we might start with someone where they need the laughing gas, or they maybe need to pre-medicate with an anti-anxiety med. Now they’re coming in and, “I don’t need to gas, I don’t need to med.” They feel like we’re family. We feel like they’re family so that the dentistry part of it is just a thing we’re doing while we’re talking.
It’s partly why we’ve designed the office the way we have with couches. We try to make it seem more like a living room and a kid’s play room. We make it seem like a home so that people relax and take down those walls that they build up because they’re so fearful of dental treatment. I guess that’s the most rewarding, when you can see that you have made a difference, and you’ve allowed someone to get the care that they need and they deserve.
Meet Dr. Justin C. Newingham, a Dentist With Advanced Training
A graduate of Albion College and University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Dr. Justin Newingham has been providing dental services to the Birmingham community for almost 15 years. In 2008, he became the owner of Newingham Dental Center, which has allowed him to pair his personalized care with the highest quality services and precision.

He has received instruction from both the Kois Center and Spear Education, two of the most advanced postdoctoral dental schools in the world. Since receiving additional training and instruction, he has become a mentor at both schools. In this role, he provides guidance and expertise to young dentists in the area and across the country.
When he’s not in the office, Dr. Newingham enjoys traveling, exercising, and coaching Little League. He’s married to his high school sweetheart, Beth, and they’ve been together since they were both 16 years old. They have three sons: Luke, Evan, and Drew and a daughter named Lucy.
