CPAP Problems
We know that a lot of our patients love to go camping. We also know that many of our patients have been diagnosed with sleep apnea.
And we have heard from more than a few of them that camping with a CPAP requires a lot of effort. If you are roughing it in an area with no electricity, you may have to buy a special battery or a special adapter (to run your CPAP with your car or truck battery).
We’ve even heard of people buying generators just to run their CPAP machines for a camping trip. That’s doesn’t seem like the most convenient thing to pack.
Of course, this may give you a way to power your CPAP, but it may not help with the other problems we often hear about from our patients.
With the hundreds of masks available, it can be difficult to find one that fits well and does not irritate your skin. Even then, you may have trouble adjusting to the sound of the machine or the feeling of air pushing into your mouth, nose, or both.
A Simpler Solution
For patients with mild or moderate obstructive sleep apnea, we have what we think is a simpler solution to your problem. We can design an oral appliance just for you.
The goal of any sleep apnea treatment is to keep you breathing. The oral appliance does this without the need for electricity, without a noisy machine, and without that odd feeling of air forcing itself into your airway.
Instead, our sleep apnea appliance shifts your lower jaw forward slightly. This can keep your airway open so you can continue breathing throughout the night. This also helps to reduce or even eliminate your snoring so your family or friends who are vacationing with you can get a good night’s rest, too.
Get Some Rest So You Can Really Relax
If you haven’t had a good night’s sleep, you aren’t going to have the energy to enjoy a day at the beach or an amusement park. If you snored all night, you may find that your spouse is more irritated than excited about your cruise.
By treating your sleep apnea, you’ll be helping yourself and the people you love get the deep, healthy sleep that all of you deserve. To learn how Newingham Dental Center Birmingham can help, please call 248-972-8720 or contact us online to set up your consultation.
