We know it’s a little early, but you may have already started putting together your shopping list for Christmas gifts. (Some of you have probably already bought some things as well.)

Make sure you remember to include yourself on your list. A great gift you can give yourself in a new smile.

As we get older, things change. Our teeth become stained. Our teeth develop chips and cracks. At the same time, we are often in a better position to do something about the things we may not like about our smiles. That could mean closing a gap between your teeth or finally correcting a crooked smile.

Whatever you what to change, we can help with our cosmetic dentistry in Birmingham, MI. You can choose one service or get a complete smile makeover at Newingham Dental Center.

To get started, just call 248-972-8720 today to schedule your appointment.

Make the Change You Want to See

As we touched on in the introduction, you may have multiple reasons for wanting to change your smile. With that in mind, let’s look at some common concerns we hear from patients and some services that can solve those problems.

I want a white, bright smile.

This is something that most people want. It’s just that it’s hard to keep your pearly whites as you get older. Every sip of coffee, tea, wine, or pretty much anything else adds to the stains on your teeth. The same goes for most of the food that you eat.

It’s also possible that your enamel may have worn down, which can also cause your smile to look yellower than you might like.

We have two treatments that could bring back your smile. The first is professional teeth whitening. Professional products have high concentrations of bleaching agents. Because of these, they can remove deep stains from your teeth, deeper than the commercial products you can find in stores. Professional whitening also works faster than commercial options. We offer both in-house and take-home treatments. We’ll answer your questions so you can decide which might be right for you.

Dental veneers are another service that can give you a whiter smile. Veneers are bonded to the front of your teeth. They don’t remove the stains, but they do change the outward appearance of your smile. Veneers also are stain resistant, which can help you keep your white smile longer.

I want my teeth to look straight.

If this is your wish, then you are in good company. There’s a reason millions of people start orthodontic care every year in the United States.

And today it’s even possible to straighten your teeth without brackets and wires. Instead, you can try Invisalign®. This system uses clear, plastic aligners to gently push your teeth where you want them to be.

The aligners are custom-designed for your teeth. You will wear each one for a few weeks. You also should know that you can remove your aligners during meals and for your oral hygiene. That way you can continue eating the foods that you love. You also can brush and floss like you normally do.

I want my teeth to look whole.

Small chips and cracks happen. So does wear and tear on your enamel. Accidents happen, too, so you may even have a broken tooth or two.

The good news is that you can repair your teeth, so they look whole again. This can restore the complete smile that you once had.

This is another time when veneers can be a great solution. With veneers, you can repair teeth that are broken, chipped, and worn-down. Likewise, you can use veneers to build up teeth that look short compared to the rest of your smile.

Another service to consider is tooth bonding. Compared to veneers, bonding may not last as long, but you can get it in a single visit to our office. Some people use bonding as a short-term fix until they can afford a more lasting treatment. Other people replace bonding as needed as a long-term solution.

I want to fix my bite alignment.

What do we mean by bite issues? You may have an overbite or underbite. An overbite is when your top row of teeth stick out noticeable more than your bottom row. An underbite happens when the lower teeth stick out more than the upper ones.

Those aren’t the only bite alignment problems you may have. A crossbite is when your upper and lower teeth overlap one another in different parts of your bite. And an open bite indicates that you have space between your upper and lower teeth even when you have closed your mouth.

Orthodontic care is the best way to fix these problems, and once again Invisalign is a good solution for most people.

I don’t want my gums to hide my smile.

When someone wants you to smile in a picture, they might say something like, “Show me your teeth,” or “Let’s see your pearly whites.” In other words, your teeth are supposed to be the focus of your smile.

If you have a gummy smile, however, your teeth may be less noticeable because your gum tissue is more visible. This can happen for a few different reasons, but the important thing to note is that it can be changed.

Through a process called gum reshaping, you can remove excess gum tissue so your teeth get to be the stars of the show.
