This month I’ve focused a number of my blogs on restorative dental treatments. That’s because about 91 percent of adults in the United States have at least one cavity. Additionally, there are millions of Americans who need dental crowns every year.
You may need a dental crown for a number of reasons: to restore a large fillings; to restore a tooth after a root canal; to restore a broken tooth; or to improve teeth with heavy stains. There a number of different ways to repair teeth, and for that matter, there are a number of different crowns. Knowing the right crown for you goes a long way in improving your oral health for the better. At Newingham Dental Center, we offer a very special type of dental crown. It’s called CEREC same-day crown, and today I want to share with you the top three advantages of CEREC crowns.
1. You’ll save time and money. CEREC same-day crowns cut down your time in the dental office by half. You can also knock out the procedure in one visit, so you will not have to worry about taking off work or school two days in a row. At most dental offices, the dentist will prepare the tooth during one visit, take an impression, and then place a temporary crown. The patient then restores a few weeks later to receive their permanent restoration. No patient wants to spend two or three visits to complete one restoration. With CEREC, we complete every step of the crown process in one visit. This is possible because CEREC has digital technology technology and a special milling system. The entire procedure takes between 90 minutes and two hours. It’s a slightly longer appointment, but we don’t leave any loose ends. You walk out of the office with your permanent restoration.
2.No more temporary crowns. Perhaps one of the most aggravating things about needy a crown is the temporary restoration. Dentists use a temporary crown as a placeholder while your permanent restoration is being fabricated. I’ll give this to you as straight as I can: I’m not a fan of temporary crown, and I don’t think anyone is. Temporary crowns serve as a great placeholder for your permanent restoration, but they that’s about it.
Temporary crowns are typically made of acrylic material and are designed to be slightly smaller than your permanent restoration. Patients with temporary crowns have eating limitations and sometimes see the crown dislodge! Using CEREC, we can craft a lifelike, permanent restoration in one visit. There’s no need for a temporary crown. You’ll leave with your permanent restoration that will last years with proper maintenance and care.
3. You’ll have a better fit. I see this same scenario in my office all the time: a patient has an old crown that fits poorly. Either the crown is too small, or way to big for the person’s mouth. The fit of a crown is important because a crown that is too big or too small can put you at a greater risk of dental disease. Why does this happen? Well, most dentists use goopy impressions to get the mold for a permanent crown. A material impression is hard to managed because it isn’t alway accurate. The impression sets the stage for a great-fitting crown. Our CEREC machine uses a digital crown to get an accurate impression of the tooth. Once we have the digital image, we send the crown to a special milling machine where it is fabricated right here in our office. We’ll make sure your crown has the perfect fit before you leave the office.
There are so many advantages of CEREC, but these above are our main three. You’ll save time, money, and you no longer have to wear an uncomfortable temporary crown for weeks or even longer. We are happy to answer any questions or concerns you have about our same-day crowns. You can call our office at 248-972-8720 for more information or to schedule your appointment.
